My idea is to make a program that will do 2 things: be able to map all the points they input (which comes from the boat's computer in degrees, minutes, seconds) and then produce maps with those pointers that can be edited to include information about them (this is the dive site and this is where we went for a hike) and also generate this images with the pointers to the places that have been visited when they are given a range of dates. Ideally this map would later become also a piece of hardware that displays this and gets added to a guest lounge on a boat, being "fed" by the radio room but seen (and perhaps minorly manipulated, with layers and zoom levels) on the guest area. Digital logbook
Ok, so I spent a lot of time on a boat, and continue to over see their operation and I was really surprised to see that on a boat that has very sophisticated equipment, all of their logs still happen only on paper.
This gets even harder because in this particular boat there's a lot of video production and usually a big need for a map to introduce the video.
Garbage maps
Perfectly good things go into the trash every day, I've always wanted to map out the trash, it's location and distribute it via sms to people who have expressed interest in an item category (like maybe 'couch'). Phones with location tags might make this a reality by mapping the object to a place and then showing it to the interested users.
